PDO Threads
Polydioxanone

What Is a Polydioxanone (PDO) Thread Lift?

It’s a biodegradable polyester suture. They work best for skin renewal, while other more recent thread lift procedures work better for raising sagging skin.

PDO threads function by inducing fibroblasts to create more collagen in a specified location over the course of six months through hydrolysis in the body. Collagen is the protein what provides your skin its suppleness and strength. One of the key factors contributing to aging skin is collagen loss.

There are three primary types of PDO threads that are utilized:

  • PDO mono threads. Sutures that are smooth and encourage the formation of collagen to revitalize your skin. They have no barbs and are attached to a spot on the head or face. They mostly tighten the skin and give a very slight lift.
  • PDO cog threads. Barbs on these threads hook into your skin like miniature fishhooks, providing support and lifting sections of your face.
  • PDO screw threads. These are used to assist provide volume to skin areas that have lost volume and are made of one or two interlaced threads.

Additional thread kinds are:

Polylactic acid (PLA)

Threads absorb in roughly 12 months, and to lift and restore shape to the facial region, PLA threads use cones to connect to the tissue and add volume to sagging area

Polycaprolactone (PCA)

The most recent materials and are biodegradable. Unlike PDO and PLA threads, they function by renewing collagen over a longer period. They leave a collagen framework in their wake that supports, tightens, and keeps the skin from sagging. Takes between 12 and 15 months to absorb.

Each kind of thread is more effective for a specific purpose. While PLA and PCA threads are better at elevating drooping areas of your skin, PDO threads are excellent at reposting and rejuvenating tissue.

Summary:

Each sort of thread has its place, and choosing the appropriate one for you is essential to realizing your goals and controlling your expectations. The ability of the treatment to work depends on the skin’s health because the threads must tighten over the lifted area.

Thin skin might increase the likelihood of bruising, rippling, and sutures revealing.

If your skin is very sagging, thread lifts are not right for you. It is vital to keep in mind that thread lift, especially PCA, provides a choice for you if you cannot bear surgical lifting. Threads might not be suited if the skin is excessively aged, thick, or damaged.

The best candidates for thread lifts have good soft tissue volume, little facial fat, and only a tiny amount of skin that needs to be raised. And remember that thread lifting is a well-tolerated, less invasive method if you want a lifting and/or revitalizing impact.

The most crucial thing to keep in mind is that thread lifts are not meant to take the place of surgical lifting.
